Junior Coders

Junior Coders is tailored for young learners beginning primary school, offering an introduction to coding through robotics. This hands-on approach provides tangible feedback, making abstract coding concepts easier to understand.

Beyond foundational coding concepts of sequencing and loops, the program seamlessly integrates mathematical concepts into hands-on activities. This interactive approach helps students develop analytical thinking and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging environment — building confidence as they embark on their primary school journey.

Courses are structured around 8 mathematical concepts.

  • Sequential Execution of Code
In coding, instructions are executed sequentially, meaning the program runs line by line from top to bottom, just like reading a sentence from left to right. Each command is carried out in the order it appears, ensuring a logical flow in the program.

    Loops: Repeating Code Efficiently
Loops are powerful coding structures that allow a section of code to be repeated multiple times without writing the same instructions over and over. They help automate repetitive tasks, making programs more efficient and concise. Loops can run a fixed number of times or continue until a certain condition is met.

  • Building structures with the Lego EV3 platform enhances spatial thinking and awareness by allowing students to visualize and manipulate objects in three-dimensional space. As they design and assemble robotic structures, they develop a deeper understanding of geometry, balance, and mechanical relationships, which are essential for both coding and engineering concepts.

Learning Math through Robotics

Mathematical concepts are abstract and pose a challenge for younger children. Robotics brings multiple opportunities to visualize and experience math first-hand.

Spatial Thinking

Develop an instinctive understanding of 3D space through designing and building Lego EV3 robots. There is evidence that supports development in spatial thinking can result in improvements in mathematical understanding. (Christopher et al., 2018)
